About Anyone know any small coastal towns to stay in between Boston and Virginia Beach

Anyone know any small coastal towns to stay in between Boston and Virginia Beach?
I will be traveling on the east coast for a month or so, mainly in Boston, NY, Philadelphia and D.C by Amtrak. Since I am visiting the major cities, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on small towns to stay in along the way, preferably coastal. Any recommendations on low cost places to stay would be helpful too. Thanks!

You could stay in Stamford CT. It is not really small town, more like a good sized city with about 120,000 people. Not much interesting there, but it is a lot cheaper than staying in a major city. The northeast regional makes stops there and hotels are within walking distance from the train station. It is less than an hour from there to NYC

If you're limited to destinations convenient to Amtrak, you might want to consider Mystic, CT (http://www.mystic.org/) with its seaport, aquarium, historic village, etc. The Amtrak station is right at the harbor. Also, while not a small town, Atlantic City is a possible day trip from Philly (90 minutes by NJ Transit commuter train).

The RI/CT coast is your best bet. Delaware beaches are too far from the train, NJ beaches are packed, and PA has no beaches. Mystic, CT is perfect for you. I've been there via Amtrak. You can take a cab from the station to downtown. Downtown has good restaurants (including Mystic Pizza, featured in the movie of the same name), cute shops. There's a hotel built from a steamship docked near the drawbridge. Good cab service to the historic Mystic Seaport (living history village) and the world-class aquarium. Also close to Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods casinos. http://www.mystic.org/ New London is another good stop, because the ferry to Block Island is right across the street from the Amtrak station. Block Island is wonderful. Westerly, RI and Old Saybrook, CT are lovely small towns with great beaches. If you get off at New Haven, you can get a local train to Milford CT, a great small quintessential non-touristy NE town. Rainbow Gardens is a great restaurant right on the town green. There are often arts fairs on weekends, concerts in the gazebo on Friday nights, plays in the small . Great cab service in town. Providenc RI is a small city, but feels like a small town. Wonderful little museum at the RI School of Design, picturesque churches and historic buildings, great capitol building, and activities like Waterfire http://www.waterfire.org/ . All along the coast, rates for Mon-Thurs are much better than weekends. Try bed and breakfasts

About Anyone know of a low-cost beach travel spot that is near Cincinnati somewhat

Anyone know of a low-cost beach travel spot that is near Cincinnati somewhat?
Spring break is coming soon. I am looking for a beach that is close to greater Cincinnati and will be inexpensive. Maybe somewhere in virginia I mean that's the closest beach I can think of. If you know any good places that are beaches and are fun and I can go to that won't cost a lot of money please let me know. I'm looking for something about 5 hours or less away and If you know of a decent hotel nearby that doesn't cost a lot but is clean and nice please also list that. Links would be helpful.

10 hours away by car is Myrtle Beach North Carolina. Loads of young people go there for Spring break. I stayed at a campground with tent and trunk full of camping things, with my girlfriend.... a long time ago. There is no beach that is 5 hours away, except maybe Lake ERIE straight North. Don't overlook the little islands there (Put in Bay) that are also a great hangout for college students. between Toledo and Cleveland, but more to the west. ISLANDS!! http://www.putinbay.com/ http://www.pibinfo.com/ budget lodging : http://www.calibex.com/Hotels--zzput+in+bay+ohio+lodgingz2703100zcalibex2zB7z5---html?nxtg=30810a1c0507-6885328611224E69

chicago - downtown - lake michigan has som egreat beaches. not yourtypical spring break beach trip, but it's quite the scene

You can always go up to Macinac Island in Michigan. Or Put in Bay on Lake Erie. There is Virginia Beach in Virginia. There is The Outer Banks in North Carolina, which is much nicer than Myrtle or Virginia beaches, but is somewhat secluded- pretty much just good restaurants and beaches outside of Nags Head. I also like Hilton Head or Tybee Island, in Georgia. They are also abotu 12 hours drive since they are pretty much straight down I75, and they are also much nicer than Virginia or Myrtle beaches. Myrtle beach does have nice beaches, but its also miles and miles of cheesy tourist crap too

About How far is Newport News VA from Virgina Beach VA

How far is Newport News VA from Virgina Beach VA?
I wil be traveling to Virginia beach soon and need to get a ticket, however, the Norfolk airport prices are much higher than Newport News. I am staying at the Westin in Virginia Beach and was wondering how far the Newport News airport was from there. I think i tmay actually be called williamsburg?

Around an hour.

Newport News/Williamsburg is actually rather far from the oceanfront in Virginia Beach. It's 35 miles to the Westin, but you have to go through one of the tunnels, which are notorious for bad traffic. Look at least an hour. Norfolk Airport is only 11 miles from the Westin and is a very easy ride

About Virginia Beach, VA?? Good family vacation spot, or no

Virginia Beach, VA?? Good family vacation spot, or no?
We're looking into a family vacation sometime before the summer ends. We LOVE the beach and usually travel to the Caribbean or somewhere in Florida or southern Alabama. Never been to the East Coast beaches and was wondering if Virginia Beach was nice or not? I don't really know anything about the area........can anyone help? What beach is the nicest? What is there to do in the area?

Virginia Beach is for you i have just returned from there. It is so much like Miami Beach, nice oceans, nice hotels. Walking on the beach at night and listening to music parties.... Awersome!!!!!!

I enjoy going there a few times a year, but I don't think this is much of a family place. The area is kind of trashy and lower-class for the most part. It is really crowded and over priced. Ironically, it makes a GREAT vacation for the winter. You can get a really nice place on the beach for about $60. The best place for the family to go would be Key West. It is actually cheaper to go to Key West than Virginia Beach. If you come up towards Boston, Cape Cod is very nice, too. You have to factor in the local population, which are more middle to upper class in those two areas. The above about Miami (which I was there in March, be there in August) is the same as Virginia Beach...you have a lot of the same lower-class type elements

Where's a good place to stay while visiting Virginia beach?
We want to be close to the beach and boards. We don't need 4 star but we don't want to stay in a dump either. We are traveling with a teenager and a 1 yr old so we'll need a crib. Any suggestions?
